These organelles participate in endocytosis, the synthesis and assembly of acid hydrolases, act as sites for digestion of foreign materials and for specialized autolytic cellular processes. Membrane-associated glycoproteins have an important role in normal lysosomal function. Prior to posttranslational modification, Lysosome Associated Membrane Protein 2 (LAMP 2) is an ~45 kDa polypeptide.
